Hey y’all, my name is Jonathan Cabrera, and I am this year’s Graphic Designer for ASCE. I am currently in my second year at San Diego State University. I was born and raised in the Fresno, California area in a little agriculture town called Selma, also known as the Raisin Capital of the World. Yes, I’ve enjoyed STEM classes throughout my education, but I am just as passionate about those things as I am with writing and other forms of expression, like graphic design and new media art. I’m still young, but civil engineering seems like the right place for me right now. It was a logical decision for me because I was interested in architecture since grade school. I feel an engineering mind coupled with my creative side could turn out to be something that makes me happy. ASCE has welcomed me into its family after I wandered in one late morning trying to put myself out there. I was the quiet kid in high school, but I had this opportunity to just embrace a new chapter. It was the best decision I’ve made in my life so far. The betterment of my collegiate career can be traced back to a jeep ride to an ASCE picnic. I hope to design some cool stuff this year, and have some serious and not so serious fun.
